NOBELTEC Admiral & VNS MAX Pro
May 2nd, 2008I just received the dealer NFR copy of NOBELTEC Admiral MAX Pro today. I Will install soon and provide a brief rundown on the features and functionality. C-Map chart integration is of course the key feature, but I am curious to see what other new functionality and features are included. Stay tuned…
NOBELTEC Admiral and VNS MAX Pro will begin shipping on May 5th. Below is a list of some changes communicated from NOBELTEC:
- No more site keys. Program unlocks are managed through the USB hardware key and will allow customers to install on up to six PCs as planning stations
- Passport Deluxe and S-57 charts are no longer supported
- Raster Plus Pack is required for viewing BSB charts (free plus pack)
- MAX Pro charts will not be sold in packages with vouchers until the next database (like WF) is released as all full packages and upgrades will contain all required chart discs.
- New chart installer for MAX Pro charts. Same chart installer for plus packs, radar, sounder, etc

My interest in VNS Max Pro is for commercial fishing in Alaska.
(Cook Inlet Salmon)
The season starts in late June and this package is so new.
I look forward to your info on this product. Anything to catch more than the next guy.
The 3D depth view would be helpful if accurate.
thanks

Has anyone been writing about the poor quality of the Max Pro charts?
I just upgraded to VNS 10.0.2.16 after finding out that version 7 doesn’t install on Vista computers. Now that I’m fully committed to the new system with the new Max Pro charts, I’ve discovered an enormous number of chart errors. Everything from coastlines jutting way out into deep channel (east side of Whidbey Island), missing data within harbors (Blake Island), to dozens (hundreds?) of mis-colored shallow zones. Sometimes there is no blue, sometimes deep blue extends into 1000 foot deep areas (large scale of Butte, Toba, and Knight Inlet.) I have contacted Nobeltec 3 times and am told this will be forwarded to the chart folks but not to expect anything soon or to expect that they will do any more than correct the things that get reported. Yes, they say, these charts have many, many more flaws than the Passport charts, but then many customers had identified Passport errors over time. In other words, even if there are hundreds of these errors, no one making the databases will be proactive. They may not be as credible as Passport charts for years, at this rate.
This is massively expensive software! Making the customer responsible for finding so many errors is not the way to run a business!
